2019년 제107회 글로벌문화경제포럼이 10월 16일 49명의 회원님이 참석하신 가운데 대신증권 신사옥에서 진행되었습니다.

강의에 앞서 신입회원으로 지난달 연자이셨던 이원재 요즈마그룹아시아 대표님과 최성희(바다) 뮤지컬 배우님 소개가 있었습니다.

이달에는 Mark Peterson 미국 브리검영대학교 교수님께서 “우물 밖 개구리가 보는 한국사” 라는 주제로 유익한 강연을 해주셨습니다. 강의 요약은 다음과 같습니다.

Why are there so many people named Kim, Yi, and Pak?  First, it's important to note that Korea with only 250 surnames, and 21% named Kim is truly unusual in the world of nations -- by contrast Japan has over 100,000 different surnames!  To ascertain the reason, we will look at many documents and evidences, such as jokbo, and inheritance documents, and historical events.  We will conclude that Korea's long dynasties, and peaceful history (yes!, peaceful history) is the best explanation.  There was never the chaos necessary to destroy the ruling elite of Seorabeol that still dominates Korea today -- Kim, Yi and Pak, descendants of Kim Alji, the Seorabeol Yi-ssi, and Pak Hyeokgeose.  And thus we will have an new perspective on Korean history -- not the war-torn, much invaded narrative commonly heard in Korea today that is the product of the tumultuous 20th century.  But taking a long view, Korea's civilian traditions; long, stable dynasties, and smooth transitions from dynasty to dynasty we see Korea in a new light, like that of the frog that comes out of the well.
